The Jackals face the Royals tonight for the third of 15 meetings, and second of eight at Santander Arena. There is no love lost between these two East Division rivals. Last night there were more fights than goals in the first period. Taylor Stefishen and Adam Comrie dropped the mitts and Matt MacKenzie followed a minute later with Brett Flemming. Olivier Labelle gave the Royals a 1-0 lead at the intermission. For the second straight night the Jackals allowed three goals in the second period to Reading, giving the home team a 4-0 lead after two periods. Lucas Bloodoff dropped the gloves with Derek Mathers late in the second in an attempt to reignite the Jackals' flame for a third period comeback. Brayden Irwin got the Jackals on the board with a power-play blast but Reading quickly answered with a power-play goal of its own, snuffing out the Jackals comeback bid.
Ten different Jackals have lit the lamp in the team's first three games. Rookie forward Allan McPherson leads the Jackals with three goals in as many games, which ties him for the league-lead among rookies. Fellow rookie Taylor Stefishen is tied for second in the league with two power-play tallies. Fourteen Jackals have recorded at least one point this season.
The Jackals have one of the least-experienced teams in the ECHL, but that hasn't stopped their rookies from getting into the mix. Six rookies have scored for Elmira this season and eight rookies have recorded at least one point. Eleven first-year players have appeared for the Jackals this year.
