Dr. Hession began working with the Elmira Jackals as the Head Athletic Trainer and Doctor of Physical Therapy in 2014. Hession brings a wealth of knowledge to the organization with 14 years of clinical experience throughout the orthopedic, neurological and cardiovascular fields prior to his involvement with the Arnot Ogden Medical Center and the Jackal's organization.
He obtained a Physical Therapy Assistant degree in 2000 from Broome Community College in Binghamton, NY. While working in the outpatient orthopedic environment and having an interest in sports medicine he pursued his Athletic Training degree from the University of Maine at Presque Isle where he worked with collegiate athletes to optimize their performance both within their respective sporting venues as well as providing rehabilitation and preventative treatment to meet their needs. He has recently obtained a Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Neumann University in Aston, PA. He continued to develop his manual therapy techniques and orthopedic sports medicine skills at Vargo Physical Therapy in Valencia, CA. He also gained valuable neurological treatment experience through the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA and Beachwood NeuroRehabilitation in Langhorne, PA.
Dr. Hession is an active member of the National Athletic Trainer's Association and the American Physical Therapy Association. Hession works with patients and athletes providing a positive and motivation influence based treatment strategy to gain optimal functional performance outcomes in both their personal and athletic roles. He is an avid sports fan especially hockey, as he is a native of upstate New York.
