The Jackals are facing the Walleye tonight for the first, and only, meeting this season. It comes exactly one year to the day after Elmira and Toledo last locked horns. No team in the Eastern Conference has appeared on Elmira's schedule less often than the two times the Walleye have in the last two years. Elmira holds an all-time record of 8-6-2 against Toledo since it came back into the ECHL for the 2009-10 season. Elmira enters tonight's game averaging four goals per game over its last three and takes on a Toledo club that has given up the most goals (147, 3.7 per game) in the ECHL. After a 3-1 home loss to Cincinnati last night the Walleye have lost three of their last four at home and have been held to one goal in each of the three losses. Elmira, meanwhile, is 3-1-0 in its last four road games.
Mike Vaskivuo took some time adjusting to his new team after the January 6 trade that brought him to Elmira from Fort Wayne. He had one point, an assist, in his first three games for the Jackals but since January 16 opponents have had extreme difficulty slowing him down. Vaskivuo has registered seven multi-point games in the Jackals' last eight contests (including four three-point games) and now has 19 points (7 goals, 12 assists) in just 11 games with the Jackals. Elmira has scored 30 goals in the 11 games since Vaskivuo has arrived and he has figured in on 63% of them.
Mark your calendars! The Jackals return to home ice on Wednesday, February 12 to take on the Reading Royals. It's a Willowcreek Wednesday where some lucky fans will compete at first intermission to win free golf from Willowcreek Golf Club.
