The Jackals are facing the Royals tonight for the 13th of 16 meetings this season and the sixth of seven at First Arena. Elmira is 2-9-1 against Reading this season, which includes a 0-5-0 record on home ice. Elmira was 2-2-1 in the season series against Reading heading into a home date with the Royals on December 26. Reading claimed the win that night and began a run of seven consecutive victories against the Jackals. In the seven-year series between the Jackals (94 games) Reading's current win streak is the longest. The Jackals have scored first in their last two meetings with the Royals, including a 2-0 lead at home on February 12, but have not been able to maintain them. Reading enters play this week as the hottest team in the ECHL with six consecutive victories. The Royals have surrendered just 11 goals over those six games and have scored no fewer than four goals in each.
Jordan Pietrus has kicked his offensive production into high gear lately. The third-year Jackal was held to 26 points from October through January but in the five weeks of play since he has generated 50 percent of that production with 13 points on four goals and nine assists. Pietrus is averaging a point per game in March with three goals and one assist and leads the team in goals this month.
