Elmira's offense snapped to life in the first period and took little more than 60 seconds to cash in the first goal of the night. Mike Vaskivuo centered a pass to Danny Hobbs in the slot and Hobbs slapped in his ninth of the season at 1:14. Troy Rutkowski also assisted as Elmira opened up the lead. Cincinnati answered back when Anthony Luciani, who had a hat trick 24 hours prior, blistered a slap shot past Maxime Clermont at 6:49. Elmira wasted little time responding as Maxim Lamarche one-upped Luciani with a slap shot of his own that hit paydirt only 2:02 after the tying score. The goal was Lamarche's third of the year with assists to Dane Walters and Vaskivuo. Clermont stopped seven of eight in the first to keep Elmira in the driver's seat.

In the second period Cincinnati opened up its offense and scored twice on eight shots to eventually send the game into the third tied at three. Paul Crowder tallied a power play goal at 9:24 that evened the score at two. Just like in the first, though, Elmira responded quickly and reestablished the one-goal lead. Rob Bellamy quickly snapped the rebound of a Ludwig Karlsson blocked shot and beat Cincinnati's Michael Houser high to the glove side. The goal was Bellamy's ninth of the year. Cincinnati's Phil Bushbacher punched home his first of the year with 1:40 remaining in the period and tied the game back up for the Cyclones.

Even though the Cyclones won momentum on their side with the late second period goal, Elmira came out of the gates strong in the third and struck early to regain the lead. Off of a faceoff at center Vaskivuo skated down the left wing and fed Jean Bourbeau on the doorstep who jammed home his fourth of the season for the go-ahead goal. The tally came with 1:18 gone by in the period. Ludwig Karlsson scored what turned out to be the game winner on a breakaway at 12:59. The rookie out of Northeastern took off on the break after blocking a shot at the point. Luciani scored late in the third with Houser pulled for the extra attacker, but one was as close as the Cyclones would get.

Clermont netted his fifth win of the season with a 25-save effort. Elmira didn't receive a power play chance and was 2-for-3 on the penalty kill.
