Meet Five-Time NHL All-Star Peter Bondra This Friday

ELMIRA, N.Y. - Come spend your Valentine's Day with the Elmira Jackals at First Arena! Five-time National Hockey League All-Star Peter Bondra is joining the party.

Bondra will be the guest of honor for the ceremonial puck drop prior to Friday's 7:05 p.m. game against Evansville. The two-time NHL goal-scoring champion will also be signing autographs during the first intermission at SplitRock Brew Pub.

Bondra was one of the elite forwards in the NHL during the 1990's and early 2000's. The 16-year NHL veteran tallied 503 goals and 892 points in 1081 career games. Bondra added 30 goals and 56 points in 80 career NHL playoff games and helped the Washington Capitals to the 1998 Stanley Cup Finals.

Bondra played 14 of his 16 NHL seasons as a key member of the Capitals. The two-time 50-goal scorer led the NHL in goals in the 1994-95 and 1997-98 seasons. Bondra still holds Capitals team records in goals (472), points (825), game-winning goals (73), short-handed goals (32) and hat tricks (19). The Slovakian was selected 156th overall in the 1990 NHL Entry Draft by the Washington Capitals.

Bondra finished his illustrious career between the Ottawa Senators, Atlanta Thrashers and the Chicago Blackhawks. On December 22, 2006, as a member of the Blackhawks, Bondra became the 37th player in league history to reach the 500-goal mark.

Bondra competed internationally for Slovakia and represented them in the 1998 Winter Olympics and the 2006 Winter Olympics. He also wore Slovakian's colors at the 1994 World Cup of Hockey and the Ice Hockey World Championships in 2002 and 2003. The three-time Slovakian Player of the Year was a gold medalist at the 2002 World Championships and was the tournament's top goal-scorer.
