MAGNIFYING THE MATCHUP

Tonight, the Jackals and Thunder conclude a two-game weekend set at First Arena. These two in-state and East Division rivals will meet for the eighth of 11 overall matchups and the fifth of six in Elmira. Last night, the Jackals and Thunder battled in a goaltenders duel with each team scoring once in the second period, but that would be all until the shootout. C.J. Motte stopped 37 of 38 shots faced and two of three shootout attempts to earn his 14th win of the season. Drew Fielding turned aside 43 of 44 shots faced and one of three shootout attempts suffering the loss. Colin Jacobs scored the lone Jackals goal in regulation and also added a shootout goal with Cason Hohmann earning the shootout winner. Justin Bernhardt recorded an assist extending his point streak to four games. In the previous meeting, Elmira exploded for eight goals in Glens Falls, tying a season-high for goals scored in a single game and setting a new mark for their winning margin. Eleven different Jackals registered at least one point including multi-point games for Chris Langkow, Allan McPherson, Tyler Currier, Zach Cohen, Jacob MacDonald, and Justin Bernhardt, while C.J. Motte turned aside all 28 Thunder shots to earn his second shutout of the season.
