Jackals Comeback Bid Comes Up Short

Jackals Drop Second Straight to Beast, 4-2

The Brampton Beast (5-1-1-2) used three goals in a wide open second period to beat the Elmira Jackals (2-7-2-0), 4-2, at First Arena Saturday Night, giving the Beast back-to-back wins over the Jackals.

The Beast struck first to take a 1-0 lead late in the first period, with Garrett Clarke stepping into a rebound near the top of the left circle. He pumped in a slap shot and beat goalie John Muse at 18:44, giving the Beast the lead entering the second.

In the decisive second period, the teams combined for five goals, with Brampton getting three and the Jackals getting two. Connor Crisp temporarily gave the Beast a two-goal lead by scoring his first ECHL goal at 3:21 of the second. Elmira responded quickly in an attempt to grab momentum in their favor. Sebastien Sylvestre received a pass from Brycen Martin and raced down the left wing. He fired a shot from the left circle, which was stopped by Bryan Pitton, but Sylvestre pounced on the rebound and scored to make it 2-1 at 4:42.

The back-and-forth play continued throughout the second and Brampton scored two quick goals to open a three-goal lead. First, Yannick Veilleux scored by sweeping a rebound off the stick of a Jackals defenseman, with the puck bouncing into the net at 7:28. Just over a minute later, Brandon MacLean took advantage after an icing was waved off. He gathered the puck and found space at the left circle before snapping a shot under the crossbar at 8:40 as the Beast went up 4-1. A few minutes later, Elmira cut the lead to two with Greg Betzold scoring his first professional goal with a shot from the right circle. Casey Thrush and Brycen Martin picked up the assists as the Jackals made it 4-2 at 11:10.

The Jackals continued to push for a comeback in the third period, but they were unsuccessful on a 5-on-3 power play midway through the period. With the goalie pulled, they appeared to score to pull within one, but the goal was disallowed and the Beast held on for a 4-2 win.
