Jackals Done In By MacArthur Hat Trick

Thunder Beat Jackals 5-1

Peter MacArthur scored twice in the first period and again early in the second to lead the Adirondack Thunder (17-10-2-3) to a 5-1 win over the Elmira Jackals (7-20-5-0) Tuesday night at the Glens Falls Civic Center.

Although the Jackals opened the game with seven of the first nine shots, they couldn't find an opening goal before the Thunder got a fortunate bounce for a 1-0 lead. Peter MacArthur took the puck behind the Jackals net and tried to center a pass to a Thunder teammate in the slot. The puck deflected off the skate of Jackals defenseman Benjamin Dieude-Fauvel and went past Jason Kasdorf at 5:55.

Later in the period, MacArthur picked up his second goal to double the Thunder lead. Conor Riley blasted a one-timer from the blue line, which got blocked in the slot, but the rebound went to the left post, where MacArthur pounced for his 11th goal of the season and a 2-0 lead at 12:50.

It was much of the same in the second period, as the Thunder skated out to a 4-0 lead. First, MacArthur completed a natural hat trick with a spin around shot from the bottom of the left circle at 1:39 for a 3-0 lead. Then, on the first power play of the game, Ty Loney tipped a point shot from Patch Alber for a power-play goal at 11:46 to put the Thunder up by four entering the third.

The Jackals finally snapped a string of seven consecutive scoreless periods to pull within three at 8:26. Tyson Fawcett worked hard to dig the puck free in the right wing corner before Kyle Rankin scooped up the puck. He fed it to Kenton Miller, who fired a shot past J.P. Anderson to make it a 4-1 game. Adirondack quickly restored its four-goal lead on a Roman Dyukov blast from the high slot after Kasdorf made a terrific sprawling save at the right post. That made it 5-1 Thunder at 10:00 of the third and that would hold as the final score as the Jackals lost their fourth in a row.
