Jackals Drop First Match in Brampton

Elmira Loses 6-4 to the Beast to Open Home-and-Home Series

The Brampton Beast (6-3-1-2) fended off multiple comeback attempts by the Elmira Jackals (2-8-2-0), eventually holding on for a 6-4 win at the Powerade Centre in Brampton Friday night. The teams conclude a home-and-home series in Elmira Saturday night.

The Beast took a 2-0 lead with back-to-back goals midway through the first period, cancelling what was a strong start for the Jackals. First, former Jackal Scott Jacklin scored on a rebound in the slot at 10:36 of the first to make it 1-0. Just over a minute later David Vallorani scored on a shot from the left circle to make it 2-0 at 12:15.

The Jackals roared back in the second period, battling back to tie the game just over halfway through the middle frame. Davis Vandane began the comeback trail, pumping home a slap shot from the right point at 2:41 of the second. Cole Martin and Colin Murray were credited with the assists on Vandane's second goal of the season. Later in the frame it was Murray who got behind the defense and slide a puck five-hole on goalie Zach Fucale to tie the game at two at 11:54, with Casey Thrush and Vandane assisting.

The game didn't remain tied for long, as the Beast responded less than 30 seconds later. Brandon MacLean converted on a pass from Vallorani at 12:25, giving Brampton a 3-2 lead. The Beast reclaimed a two-goal lead on Vallorani's second goal of the night, scoring on a one-timer from the bottom of the left circle at 17:46.

The Beast extended the lead just 58 seconds into the third period, with Jacklin scoring his second goal of the night, beating John Muse to the short side on a shot from the left circle, putting the Beast up 5-2. Elmira would claw back into the game again, with Daultan Leveille leading the charge. First he scored on a deflection of a Tyson Fawcett shot at 11:27 to make it 5-3. Then he cashed in on a rebound to make it 5-4 at 16:03. The Jackals would pull Muse for an extra attacker, but David Pacan scored for the Beast into the empty net to make it a 6-4 final score.
