Jackals Receive Three From AHL

Hohmann and Goulakos Return from Rochester; Currier Comes Back from Springfield


The Elmira Jackals, ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Buffalo Sabres and the AHL's Rochester Americans, announced today that forward Cason Hohmann and defensemanSpiro Goulakos have been returned to the Jackals by the Rochester Americans. Additionally, forward Tyler Currier has been returned from loan with the Springfield Falcons of the AHL.


Hohmann23, appeared in three games with the Americans and recorded three shots on goal in his first professional AHL stint. The rookie forward returns to Elmira as the team's leader in assists (36) and points (54). He is also tied for the team lead with nine power-play assists and ranks third on the club with 18 goals. The 5-foot-9 175-pound forward is tied for second among league rookies in points and ranks fourth in assists. Hohmann was named the Sher-Wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week for the week of February 22-28 and was named a runner-up for the CCM Rookie of the Month in November and February.

Prior to turning pro, Hohmann amassed 92 points (32 goals, 60 assists) in 145 NCAA games for Boston University. As a senior, the Arlington, Texas native helped lead the Terriers to the NCAA National Championship game and the Hockey East Conference title while setting a career high with 11 goals.


Before attending Boston University, Hohmann skated for the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders of the United States Hockey League (USHL). He recorded 92 points (31 goals, 61 assists) in 113 games and appeared in the USHL All-Star Game in 2010-11 season.

Goulakos, 26, skated in two contests with the Americans in his third AHL trip of the season and earned his first AHL goal, assist and multi-point game on Saturday at Syracuse. In ten games with Rochester this year, Goulakos has two points, five shots on goal and a plus-2 rating. The 6-foot-2 195-pound defenseman comes back to the Jackals leading all club defensemen with 23 assists and a plus-13 rating while ranking second with 30 points in 51 games played. Goulakos also leads all Jackals skaters with five power-play goals.

Prior to turning pro, the Montreal, Quebec native posted 71 points (22 goals, 49 assists) and 176 penalty minutes in 130 NCAA games while serving as a two-time captain at Colgate University. As a senior, Goulakos was named to the NCAA Lowes Senior Class All-American First Team and was named to the ECAC All-Tournament Team. He was also recognized as Colgate's Terry Slater Award winner as a senior whose performance, leadership, and dedication on and off the ice had the greatest impact on Colgate hockey.


Currier, 27, made his AHL debut yesterday with the Springfield Falcons and recorded his first career AHL goal and assist while earning the game's first star honors. The 6-foot-2 205-pound forward returns to the Jackals as the team's leading goal scorer with 21 goals on the season. Currier is having a career year with Elmira posting 33 points (21 goals, 12 assists), 70 penalty minutes and a plus-5 rating in 63 games. He is tied for second on the team with four power-play goals and ranks fourth in points. Currier has skated in 151 professional games between the Jackals, Springfield Falcons, Missouri Mavericks, and the Alaska Aces accruing 61 points (34 goals, 27 assists) with 183 penalty minutes.


Prior to turning pro, the Anchorage, Alaska native skated for his hometown school at the University of Alaska-Anchorage. He appeared in 103 NCAA games for the Seawolves registering 15 points (seven goals, eight assists) and 116 penalty minutes. Currier was voted the Leon Thompson Fan Favorite by his hometown UAA fans.
