Jackals Road Trip Continues With 5-2 Loss

Monarchs Pull Away With Two Unanswered Goals In The Third

The Manchester Monarchs (35-22-7-4) got two unanswered goals in the third period and pulled away from the Elmira Jackals (17-44-7-1), 5-2, at the SNHU Arena Saturday night.

With an extra day off between games, the Monarchs came out of the gates flying to grab an early 1-0 lead. On their second power-play in the first half of the period, Mario Puskarich potted a power-play goal at 8:28, depositing a lively rebound that came off the glass following a missed shot by Colton Saucerman.

The Jackals pulled even later in the period on a one-timed power-play goal by Davis Vandane from the left circle at 15:37. Matt Stanisz received a pass from Kenton Miller and sent the puck to Vandane at the left circle where he blasted a shot to the near post to make it a 1-1 game on his 10th goal of the season.

The Monarchs took it to the Jackals to open the second period and they opened a 3-1 lead just over halfway through the game. Daniel Doremus broke the 1-1 tie by finding the loose puck behind Andy Iles and putting it into an open net at 6:29. Later in the period, Cory Ward scored on another lively rebound off the end wall, making it 3-1 at 11:34 of the second.

The Jackals weathered the storm and then got back within one again late in the second. Steven Kaunisto took the puck down the right wing, got to the right circle, then sent a pass toward the slot. Perry D'Arrisso got a stick on it and popped it into the net for his first professional goal at 16:45, cutting the Monarchs lead to 3-2.

Elmira played its strongest period in the third, but the Monarchs ended up pulling away with two unanswered goals. The Monarchs opened a 4-2 lead at 5:34 when Saucerman buried a one-timer from the slot following a tic-tac-toe pass play. The Jackals continued to press for a comeback, but that fell short when Zac Lynch sealed the game with an empty-net goal with 1:01 remaining to give the Monarchs a 5-2 win.
