Jackals Sign ECHL All-Star

Tyson Fawcett Adds Scoring Punch to Jackals Roster

The Elmira Jackals, ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Buffalo Sabres and AHL's Rochester Americans, announced today the team has signed ECHL All-Star forward Tyson Fawcett to a Standard Player Contract for the 2016-17 season.

Fawcett, 23, begins his third professional season and his first with the Jackals, spending the previous two seasons in the ECHL. As a rookie with the Brampton Beast in 2014-15, the Barrie, Ontario native was named to the ECHL All-Star game in Orlando. That season he put up 24 points (9g, 15a) in 59 games. He added one power-play goal and two game-winning goals with the Beast.

"I am very excited to be a part of the Elmira Jackals organization," said Fawcett. "I felt this would be the best situation to further my hockey career and get to the next level. I can't wait for the season to start."

The 5-foot-7, 165-pound forward is coming off a strong season for the Evansville Icemen, where he finished fourth on the team with 42 points (22g, 20a) while proving to be durable by appearing in all 72 games. His 22 goals ranked second on the team and he added eight power-play points (4g, 4a), while scoring one of the team's two shorthanded goals.

Before turning pro, Fawcett had a successful junior career, spending two seasons with the OHL's Barrie Colts from 2012 to 2014. He was named an alternate captain for the Colts in 2013-14 and over the two seasons he registered 75 points (35g, 40a) in 130 games. He also had 15 points (3g, 12a) in 31 career OHL playoff games over the two seasons, helping the Colts reach Game 7 of the OHL Championship in 2013.

Additionally the Jackals have added three players on tryout agreements. Forward Christian Horn and defensemen Mike Slowikowski and Rich Botting will compete at Jackals' training camp for a spot on the 2016-17 roster.

Horn, 23, is a rookie who finished his collegiate career at St. Lawrence University in 2015-16 before signing a contract with the SPHL's Pensacola Ice Flyers. He played four games and had one assist with the Ice Flyers in his first taste of pro hockey. Before signing with Pensacola, the Plymouth, Minnesota native put up 13 points (4g, 9a) in 30 games as a senior at St. Lawrence. In his two-year career there, the 5-foot-7, 177-pound winger finished with 26 points (11g, 15a). He also spent one season in the USHL, playing for the Tri-City Storm and Sioux Falls Stampede in 2013-14, picking up 47 points (23g, 24a) in 50 games between the teams.

Slowikowski, 27, has appeared in 42 ECHL games since the start of the 2014-15 season. The Ewing, New Jersey native has played for the Toledo Walleye and Wheeling Nailers, adding two assists and posting a +1 rating. During that time he also played for the SPHL's Peoria Rivermen, seeing action in 51 games and picking up 14 points (2g, 12a) while maintaining a +21 rating. The 6-foot-6, 230-pound defenseman spent four seasons at Utica College, where he appeared in 102 games and had 42 points (15g, 27a) for the Pioneers.

Botting, 23, is a rookie embarking on his pro career after a four-year career at SUNY-Plattsburgh from 2012 to 2016. The Binghamton, New York native had a career-high 21 points (3g, 18a) in 27 games as a senior. In total, the 6-foot-1, 183-pound defenseman appeared in 95 games with 44 points (11g, 33a). Botting signed an ATO with the Reading Royals late last season, but he did not appear in a game. He played his junior hockey in the AtJHL for the Binghamton Jr. Senators and Hartford Jr. Wolfpack from 2008 to 2012.
