Mike Seidel scored his team-leading fifth goal of the season and second on the road trip, but the Jackals were stung by the South Carolina Stingrays tonight in the final season meeting, 4-1.
A night after being shutout in their own building, the Stingrays came out shooting early and often in the first frame. South Carolina recorded the first eight shots on goal, while the Jackals did not record their first shot on goal until there were just over six minutes left in the first period. However, neither team broke through until late in the period when Andrew Rowe tried to walk out in front and lost control of the puck, which bounced to a waiting Brendan Ellis who pinched in from the point and deposited it past C.J. Motte. The Stingrays stung again right off the ensuing face-off. Nick Jones got the puck deep in the Jackals end and Colin Mulvey fired a feed from the corner to Derek DeBlois for the tap-in just 19 seconds later.
The aforementioned Mulvey provided the Stingrays with a 3-0 lead nearly halfway through the second period with a short-side shot off the post and past Motte. The Jackals answered late in the frame and cut the deficit back down to two. Cason Hohmann fed the puck to the point to Nathan Oystrick who threw the puck towards the net-front and found Mike Seidel's stick for the tip-in tally at 16:57 of the period. Less than a minute later Derek DeBlois was whistled for holding giving the Jackals an opportunity to score again before the intermission. Following a flurry in front, Justin Bernhardt chipped the puck through the traffic and looked to beat Branden Komm, but had it pulled off the goal-line by the stick of a defender.
The Jackals trailed by two heading into the third period with last Friday's comeback victory over Orlando fresh in their minds. However, the Stingrays would score the next goal as Andrew Rowe tucked the puck past Motte on the power-play to increase their lead to 4-1. Despite 21 shots on goal, the Jackals weren't able to put more than one past Komm and dropped the final season meeting against South Carolina.
C.J. Motte stopped 29 of 33 shots faced but was handed the loss. Branden Komm turned aside 20 of 21 shots faced and earned the win.
