Jackals Take Over Top Spot in East Division with Sixth Straight Win

The Elmira Jackals defeated the Adirondack Thunder 6-4 tonight, taking over first place in the East Division with their sixth consecutive victory.

The first period was a wild back-and-forth frame as the Jackals and Thunder combined for six goals in the opening 20 minutes. The Thunder struck first at 1:29 with Luke Curadi's first goal of the season coming on Adirondack's first shot on goal. Less than two minutes later the Jackals responded on their first shot on goal with Mike Seidel's tying tally. Allan McPherson feathered a beautiful saucer pass ahead springing Seidel for his 10th goal of the season. Just 30 seconds later, Chris Langkow blocked a shot at the point, raced down the right wing side on a two-on-one and laid a pass across the slot to McPherson for his seventh goal of the season. Adirondack answered back at 6:02 on the man advantage as Michael Kirkpatrick ripped a short-side shot from the circle past C.J. Motte for his 10th goal of the season. The Jackals jumped back out in front at 13:54 when Justin Kea tipped in Nick Petrecki's point shot for his second goal of the season. Kevin Clare also earned an assist on Kea's marker. As the back-and-forth battle continued the Thunder struck again as Joe Faust scored his first goal of the season with a wrist shot on the right wing side. Following Faust's tying goal, C.J. Motte was pulled and Niklas Lundstrom entered the game.

The Jackals regained the lead at 4:15 of the second period on their first and only power-play of the game. Mark Bennett moved the puck to Jacob MacDonald for the point shot that was tipped in by Colin Jacobs for his sixth goal of the season. Despite firing 20 shots on goal in the second period, the Thunder could not solve Niklas Lundstrom in the middle frame.

Adirondack finally pushed one past Lundstrom through a flurry in front with Gunnar Hughes' fourth goal of the year. The game was not tied for long as Justin Kea fired a wrist shot past Ken Appleby just over three minutes later for his second goal of the night and third of the season. Jacob MacDonald earned the lone assist. Allan McPherson added his second goal of the night and eighth of the season with an empty-net strike at 18:32 to silence the Thunder for good. Mike Seidel and Chris Langkow earned the helpers.

Niklas Lundstrom turned aside 31 of 32 shots faced in 42:47 of duty to earn his fourth consecutive win. Ken Appleby allowed five goals on 15 shots faced and was handed the loss.
