Kasdorf Shines in Loss to Manchester

Daniel Ciampini Hat Trick Leads Monarchs to 5-4 Win

Jason Kasdorf turned aside 45 shots, but the Elmira Jackals (6-15-5-0) fell victim to a Daniel Ciampini hat trick and lost to the Manchester Monarchs (19-8-1-1), 5-4, Friday night at First Arena. The regulation loss ended the Jackals home point streak at five games.

The team's combined for five goals in a wild first period, where the Monarchs outshot the Jackals, 24-7. Ciampini opened the scoring by tapping in a cross ice pass at the right circle for his 10th goal of the season to put Manchester up 1-0 at 2:01 of the first. Despite surrendering the first nine shots of the game, the Jackals tied it up just over two minutes later when Kenton Miller buried a rebound that came off a shot from new Jackal Travis Jeke. Miller's eighth of the season started an exchange of goals between the teams, as the Monarchs would take three one-goal leads in the period.

Jordan LaVallee-Smotherman continued to torment the Jackals with his fourth goal against Elmira this season, putting the Monarchs up 2-1 nine minutes into the game. The Jackals responded again later in the first when Sebastien Sylvestre fired a shot from the left circle after he and Tyson Fawcett stole the puck on the forecheck. Just over a minute after Sylvestre tied the game, Kevin Morris got Manchester another lead, scoring on a deflection in the slot at 17:57 and the Monarchs took a 3-2 lead into the first intermission.

Things settled down in the second period and the Jackals tied the score with the only goal of the frame. Miller converted on another rebound near the crease for his second goal of the night at 3:40 of the second. The play started with Fawcett racing down the right wing and finding J.P. LaFontaine in the slot, where he teed up the shot that created a rebound for Miller to capitalize on. The game entered the third period deadlocked 3-3.

It remained a tie game for much of the third period, until Ciampini broke the tie with a snap shot from the left circle at 14:45. He completed a hat trick, and gave the Monarchs their first two-goal lead, just over two minutes later to make it 5-3. The Jackals quickly responded on an unassisted goal by Charlie Mosey, but their comeback effort came up short as the Monarchs were able to hang on for a 5-4 win, outshooting Elmira 50-26.
