Rochester Recalls Defenseman Matt Prapavessis

The Elmira Jackals, ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Buffalo Sabres and AHL's Rochester Americans, announced today that defenseman Matt Prapavessis has been recalled by Rochester.

Prapavessis, 24, heads back to Rochester for his second stint with the Americans this season. The rookie defenseman skated in 25 games with Rochester prior to his assignment to Elmira. Prapavessis recorded an assist in his season debut on October 9th and registered his first pro goal on January 30th. The 6-foot-1 200-pound defenseman added two assists in seven games with the Jackals. Last season, Prapavessis joined the Americans and skated in 10 games following the conclusion of his collegiate career. He posted his first pro point, an assist, on April 9th, 2015.

Prior to turning pro, Prapavessis appeared in 150 NCAA games for Bemidji State University registering 70 points (17 goals, 53 assists) and 296 blocked shots over the course of four seasons. The Oakville, Ont. native served as a two-time captain of the Beavers and was named to the WCHA All-Academic team in his final three seasons. Prapavessis also earned WCHA Second All-Star Team honors as a senior while being named to the WCHA Third All-Star Team as a junior.

Before attending Bemidji State University, Prapavessis skated one season with the Lincoln Stars of the United States Hockey League (USHL) and spent two years with the Mississauga Chargers of the Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL).
