A Look Back at the Jackals History in the ECHL
The Elmira Jackals joined the ECHL in the summer of 2007 and celebrate their 10th anniversary season this year. As part of the celebration, the Jackals will periodically look back at significant moments in team history from our time in the ECHL.
In today's "This Date in Jackals History" we go back to October 19, 2007. That night, the Jackals played in their first ECHL regular-season game, squaring off against the Wheeling Nailers at First Arena.
The Jackals won the game, 4-2, with Scott May scoring twice in the win for Elmira. Benoit Doucet, making his ECHL and Jackals debut, scored the team's first ECHL goal at 5:07 of the first period, giving the Jackals a 1-0 lead. Doucet finished the Jackals inaugural ECHL season with a team-high 83 points (31g, 52a).
May gave the Jackals a 2-0 lead at 8:52 of the first period before the Nailers got on the board later in the period. Tomas Kudelka scored the team's first power-play goal in the second period and May put the game away with an empty-net goal in the third period.
Goaltender Joel Martin made 16 saves on 18 shots to earn the Jackals' first ECHL win as Elmira outshot Wheeling, 42-18, in front of 3,925 fans.
