Cousineau named ECHL Goaltender of the Week

The ECHL announced on Tuesday that Elmira Jackals netminder Marco Cousineau has been named the Reebok Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Week for Mar. 7 - 13.

Cousineau, a rookie from St. Lazare, Quebec, went 2-0-0-1 in three starts this past week, posting a .961 save percentage and a 1.30 goals-against average as Elmira jumped into sixth place in the Eastern Conference standings. On Tuesday, Cousineau stopped 33 of 35 shots in a 3-2 victory in South Carolina. He followed that effort up by making 30 saves on 31 shots against Gwinnett in a 2-1 win on Friday and 36 saves on 37 shots against the Gladiators in a 2-1 shootout loss on Saturday.

Cousineau's performance this past week upped his record to 19-12-4-1, improved his save percentage to .901, and lowered his goals-against average to 3.08.

The 21-year old was drafted by Elmira's NHL affiliate, the Anaheim Ducks, in the third round of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft out of the QMJHL. Cousineau had a standout junior hockey career that saw him receive the Hap Emms Memorial Trophy as the top goaltender of the 2009 Memorial Cup with the Drummondville Voltigeurs. In his final junior season in 2009-2010, Cousineau backstopped the Saint John Sea Dogs to the QMJHL finals.

Cousineau is the fourth Jackal to earn this award and first in the 2010-2011 season. Dan LaCosta won it for the week of Nov. 12 - 18, 2007, Mitch O'Keefe garnered it for the week of Feb. 2 - 8, 2009, and Julien Ellis captured it for the week of Feb. 1 - 7, 2010.
