The Elmira Jackals announced on Wednesday that they have replaced head coach Malcolm Cameron with general manager Robbie S. Nichols.

"Our great fans and sponsors deserve to see a winning product on a nightly basis," Jackals owner Dr. Mostafa Afr said. "With three victories in the last 16 games, it became apparent that it was time for a change."

Nichols has three championships on his resume - one each as a coach, as an assistant general manager, and as a player - and will step behind the bench for the first time since he coached the Jackals in 22 games during the 2006-2007 season when Elmira was in the United Hockey League.

In his first season as a head coach in 1995-1996, Nichols won the Colonial Hockey League championship with the Flint Generals with a 52-18-5 record. His Generals reached the CoHL finals and the UHL finals in each of the next two seasons. A native of Hamilton, Ontario, Nichols also coached the Adirondack IceHawks and the Richmond Riverdogs of the UHL.

Nichols won a championship as the assistant general manager of the Memphis RiverKings in the Central Hockey League in the 2001-2002 season.

As a player, Nichols skated nine seasons professionally in the American Hockey League and International Hockey League. In 1988-1989, Nichols won the AHL's Calder Cup with the Adirondack Red Wings.

Known as a physical, two-way player, Nichols totaled 2,145 penalty minutes in his career to go along with 176 goals and 192 assists for 368 career points.
