Monmouth Junction, N.J. - The Elmira Jackals dropped their 2011-2012 preseason opener to the Trenton Titans on Friday night at ProSkate NJ, 5-4. Elmira heads back to First Arena on Saturday night to host the Reading Royals in exhibition action at First Arena.

Jordon Southorn gave the Titans their first goal of the preseason at 9:05 of the opening period as Trenton established a 1-0 lead through 20 minutes.

The Jackals struck early in the second to tie the game. Mike Radja put the Jackals on the board 10 seconds into a 5-on-3 power play to even the score at 4:10. Mike Ratchuk and Josh Godfrey collected assists on the play.

With Elmira and Trenton skating 4-on-4, Chris Huxley found the back of the net to put Trenton back in front, 2-1, at 8:24 of the second. The Titans then scored a pair of power-play tallies to establish a 4-1 lead, as Peter Lenes (10:07) and Southorn (11:57) both notched goals with Trenton on the advantage in the middle frame.

Godfrey, assigned to Elmira earlier in the day by its AHL affiliate, the Binghamton Senators, scored the first of his two goals at 18:29 with assists from Evan Barlow and Dustin Gazley to commence the Jackals' rally, 4-2. He lit the lamp again at 2:35 of the third from Barlow and Radja to bring the Jackals to within a goal, 4-3, and then Jack Downing, also assigned to the Jackals earlier in the day by Binghamton, scored short handed to tie the game, 4-4, at 8:48 with Artem Demkov securing the helper.

Matt Germain scored unassisted on the power play at 9:05 of the third to put the Titans back on top, 5-4. Trenton held off Elmira in the final 10:55 to secure the victory.

Dave Caruso made 30 saves on 34 shots to earn the win in net for Trenton. Corey Milan took the loss for the Jackals, making eight saves on nine shots after entering the game for the third period. Larry Sterling played the first two periods for Elmira, stopping 28 of 32 bids.
