Jackals end preseason with overtime loss to Royals
Saturday, October 08, 2011Elmira, N.Y. - The Elmira Jackals closed out their preseason with a 3-2 loss in overtime to the Reading Royals on Saturday night at First Arena. The Jackals open the regular season at home on Friday, Oct. 14 at 7:35 p.m. when they host the Trenton Titans.

After a scoreless opening frame, Riley Armstrong sprung Evan Barlow into the zone on a 2-on-1, with Barlow centering a pass for Mike Radja who tapped the puck in to give the Jackals a 1-0 lead 30 seconds into the second period.
Everett Sheen finished off a rebound from a Derrick LaPoint shot at 13:03 of the middle stanza to tie the game, 1-1.
Josh Godfrey's one timer on the power play whistled between the pads of Reading goaltender Joe Palmer to put Elmira in front once again at 7:43 of the third period.
Moments later, Matt Caruana redirected a Danny Urban shot past Elmira netminder Marco Cousineau to even the score, 2-2, at 8:09.
Casey Haines snuck a loose puck past Cousineau with the Royals on a power play with 6.4 seconds remaining in the overtime session to give Reading the victory.
Cousineau stopped 16 of 19 shots in the loss. Brian Stewart played the first half of the game in net for the Jackals, making saves on all 12 shots he saw. Joe Palmer earned the victory for Reading with a 27-save outing.
