After Elmira was unable to convert on two early power plays, Riendeau took a long feed from Rob Kwiet at the Elmira blue line and fired it past Jackals goaltender Brian Stewart from the left circle to put Reading up 1-0 at 14:39.

Moments later, Rob Shearer drove a puck in from the left side to give the Royals a 2-0 advantage at 15:32.

Olivier Labelle tapped in a feed from Ryan Cruthers, with Labelle sneaking in backdoor, for a power-play goal just eight seconds into Reading's first man-advantage opportunity of the game to extend the lead to 3-0 at 1:55 of the second. The goal was Labelle's 54th as a Royal, putting him alone in first place for the all-time team lead.

Cruthers found another Royal backdoor at 6:01, with Riendeau redirecting in the feed from the Royals' captain to give Reading a 4-0 lead. Jackals coach Pat Bingham replaced Stewart with Timo Pielmeier in net at this juncture.

Cruthers knocked in a loose puck off a deflection from a Rob Kwiet shot with the Royals on a five-on-three power play at 13:08 to extend the advantage to 5-0.

Evan Barlow deflected in Craig Rivet's blast with Elmira on its third power play to put the Jackals on the board, 5-1, at 15:52 of the second.

In the third period, Kyle Reeds brought the Jackals to within three goals by redirecting a puck in off of Reading goaltender Joe Palmer's pad for his first professional goal, making the score 5-2 at 4:30.

With the Jackals on a power play and threatening to draw closer, Dennis McCauley stole a puck and fired it past Pielmeier's stick for Reading's first short-handed goal of the season, increasing the Royals' lead to 6-2 at 8:38.

Palmer earned the win with a 39-save outing. Stewart suffered the loss, making 10 saves on 14 shots.

The Jackals take on the Wheeling Nailers on the road this Tuesday at 11:05 a.m.
