Jackals conclude Pro Placement Tryouts, invite three to training camp
Sunday, September 04, 2011The Elmira Jackals capped off their Sixth Annual Pro Placement Camp on Sunday afternoon at First Arena. Following the three day event that saw 61 players take the ice, Jackals general manager Robbie S. Nichols and head coach Pat Bingham invited forward Jim Chiropoulos, defenseman Ryan Dolence, and goaltender Michael Dilorenzo to attend the club's 2011-2012 training camp.

"This was by far the strongest Pro Placement Camp in Jackals history," Nichols said. "As a result, the ultimate decision on who to invite to our training camp was much tougher than in past years."
"The players at the camp displayed a lot of potential this weekend," Bingham added. "We witnessed high-quality, intense hockey all three days."
Chiropoulos, a native of Laval, Quebec, is a 6-foot, 197-pound wing who came to the camp hoping to make a positive impression and earn a spot at the Jackals' training camp after not playing hockey for the past three seasons.
"It was clear to us from the start that Jim was one of the best forwards at the camp," Nichols said. "He uses his hockey sense to create scoring opportunities, and he converted on his chances on a regular basis each session of the camp."
Dolence finished out his junior-hockey career in 2010-2011 with the NOJHL-champion Soo Eagles. The 6'2", 201-pound defenseman comes to Elmira from Clinton, Pa.
"Ryan generated a lot of offense this camp and showed intelligence as to how to play his position," Bingham said. "He is in great shape and that showed on the ice this weekend."
Dilorenzo attended Jackals training camp in 2006-2007 and spent three weeks with the team that season as a backup goaltender. The Waterford, N.Y. native had been out of hockey for three seasons but showed little rust at the Pro Placement Camp.
"Michael's positioning in the crease and his ability to play the puck separated him from the other goaltenders at our camp," Nichols said.
