Taylor Stefishen Returns to Elmira
Two-Way Forward Brings His Talents Back to the Twin Tiers
ELMIRA, NY - July 15, 2015 - The Elmira Jackals, ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Buffalo Sabres and the AHL's Rochester Americans, announced today that the team has re-signed forward Taylor Stefishen to a Standard Player Contract for the 2015-16 season.
Stefishen, 24, re-signs with the Jackals following a successful rookie campaign in Elmira. In 58 games with the Jackals, the North Vancouver, British Columbia native finished tied for first on the team with six power-play goals, tied for second in goals with 16 and assists with 24 as well as ranking third overall in points with 40. Stefishen also earned two AHL call-ups in his first year as a pro. He joined the Adirondack Flames and skated in six games at the end of the 2014-15 campaign. The 6-foot-1 200-pound forward also appeared in four games with the Texas Stars and tallied his first career AHL point with an assist on December 20th, 2014 at Toronto.
"Taylor had a great rookie campaign and earned two call ups to the AHL," said Jackals head coach Jamie Russell. "He is a winger that can play either side and mixes great vision and creativity with grit and edge. On multiple occasions last year he stepped up to defend a teammate. We expect Taylor to get off to a hot start and play in all situations as he excels in even strength play, on the power play and in short handed situations."
Prior to turning pro, Stefishen played three seasons in the CIS with the University of Calgary. In his last season with the Dinos, he served as an alternate captain and led the team with 25 assists in addition to finishing the year tied for second on the team with 32 points in 26 games. In 79 CIS games, Stefishen notched 24 goals and 53 assists. Before attending the University of Calgary, he played one season in the Western Hockey League with the Prince George Cougars and recorded 67 points (24 goals, 43 assists) in 68 games. Stefishen also skated at Ohio State University for the previous two seasons (2008-10), logging 21 points in 42 games.
