Jacob MacDonald and Cason Hohmann Named to ECHL All-Rookie Team

The Elmira Jackals, ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Buffalo Sabres and the AHL's Rochester Americans, proudly announced today that defenseman Jacob MacDonald and forward Cason Hohmann have been named to the 2015-16 ECHL All-Rookie Team. The Jackals are the only team to have multiple representatives on the All-Rookie Team.

MacDonald, 23, is in his first full professional season after joining Elmira for eight games last year following the conclusion of his collegiate career at Cornell University. The 6-foot 210-pound defenseman is tied for first overall among blueliners with 17 goals and is tied for the lead among rookie defensemen with 35 points (17 goals, 18 assists) in 70 games played. MacDonald is the only Jackal to skate in every game this season. He leads the league with four shorthanded goals this season, which is a total that has never been bested by a defenseman in league history. MacDonald has also rewritten the Jackals record books, setting a new single-season mark for goals scored by a defenseman.

Prior to turning pro, MacDonald recorded 21 points (four goals, 17 assists) in 104 NCAA games at Cornell University. Before suiting up for the Big Red, the Fernley, Nev. native skated for two seasons with the Waterloo Black Hawks of the United States Hockey League (USHL) amassing 40 points (12 goals, 28 assists) in 87 games.

Hohmann, 23, leads the Jackals with 37 assists and 57 points in 57 games played to begin his professional career. The 5-foot-9 175-pound forward is tied for the team lead with nine power-play assists and ranks second with 20 goals. Among ECHL rookies, Hohmann ranks second in points and is tied for third in assists. He was named the Sher-Wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week for the week of February 22-28 and was named a runner-up for the CCM Rookie of the Month in November and February. Hohmann has also appeared in three games with the Rochester Americans and recorded three shots on goal in his first professional AHL stint.

Prior to turning pro, Hohmann amassed 92 points (32 goals, 60 assists) in 145 NCAA games for Boston University. As a senior, the Arlington, Texas native helped lead the Terriers to the NCAA National Championship game and the Hockey East Conference title while setting a career high with 11 goals.

Before attending Boston University, Hohmann skated for the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders of the United States Hockey League (USHL). He recorded 92 points (31 goals, 61 assists) in 113 games and appeared in the USHL All-Star Game in 2010-11 season.

The ECHL's All-Rookie Team is determined in a vote of ECHL coaches, broadcasters, media relations directors and media, who were asked to select a goaltender, two defensemen and three forwards.

A rookie is defined as a player who has played in less than 25 professional games prior to the start of the current season.
