Betzold, 21, began his first professional season with the Cincinnati Cyclones, appearing in two games earlier this season. The Cincinnati, Ohio native played his junior hockey in the Ontario Hockey League with the Peterborough Petes. From 2012 to 2016, the lefty-shooting forward put up 168 points (88g, 80a) in 244 games with Peterborough. In his final season with the Petes, the 6-foot-2, 217-pound forward finished with career-highs in points (65) and goals (43). In 23 OHL playoff games, Betzold had 16 points (8g, 8a).

The rookie made his professional debut with Cincinnati on Oct. 22 against the Wheeling Nailers and in two games with the Cyclones he had two shots on goal.

In separate transactions, the Jackals have released rookie forward Zach Luczyk and rookie defenseman Carl Tremblay from their contracts.
