The ECHL announced Monday that Elmira Jackals center Justin Donati has been named the 2009-2010 CCM ECHL Rookie of the Year and the recipient of the John A. Daley Memorial Trophy. Jackals winger Tyler Donati was announced as the ECHL's top scorer on Monday as well.
Justin led all rookies in 2009-2010 with 42 goals, 62 assists, and 104 points. On Apr. 2, he became the 16th rookie in league history to reach 100 points in a season.
The Oakville, Ontario native was named to the ECHL All-Rookie Team and the All-ECHL 2nd Team last week. Donati was also selected as the Reebok Hockey ECHL Rookie of the Month for October and December. He was one of two Jackals two participate in the 2010 ECHL All-Star Game.
The runner-up for the award was Richard Bachman, a goaltender for the Idaho Steelheads.
Donati was second in the ECHL in scoring this season behind his twin brother, Tyler, who won the ECHL's scoring championship.
Tyler's 114 points paced the ECHL this season, as did his 76 assists. On Mar. 23, he became the first Jackal to reach 100 points in a season. Tyler was the Reebok Hockey ECHL Player of the Month for February and had a league-high 17-game scoring streak from January to April, during which he scored 17 goals and 24 assists.
Last week, Tyler was selected to the All-ECHL 1st Team.
