Cincinnati, OH- Mac Faulkner netted a hat trick and Jimmy Kilpatrick had two assists and the game winner, 1:46 into the first overtime to give the Cincinnati Cyclones a 5-4 victory and a 2-0 series lead. The Jackals led 4-1 midway through the first second period but couldnt hold on for the win. The series comes to Elmira for game three this Wednesday at 7:05 p.m.
After taking their biggest defeat of the season in game one, the Jackals came out on fire in game two. 1:44 in Pierre-Luc Faubert netted his seventh of the season with the assists going to Chaz Johnson and Travis Gawryletz. The Cyclones tied the game at the 12:43 mark with Mac Faulkners second of the post season. Faulkner connected on a tic-tac-toe play from Ian McKenzie and Jimmy Kilpatrick. The Jackals struck right back with Pierre-Luc Fauberts second of the game at the 15:45 mark. Chaz Johnson and Slavomir Tomko assisted on the play. The Jackals closed out the first with a 2-1 lead and a 12-7 shot advantage.
The second period opened with a Steve Yetman goal just 1:53 in. Slavomir Tomko sent a pass to Benoit Doucet who connected with the streaking Yetman. Yetman walked over the blue line and fired a wrist shot from the far half wall beating Loic Lacasse for the 3-0 lead. Lacasse was then replaced by former Jackal Ryan Nie. The Jackals took advantage of the cold goaltender at the 7:05 mark when Benoit Doucet picked up his second goal of the post season and second point of the game. Doucet pounded home a Derek Couture rebound on the blocker side. Wes Cunningham also assisted. The Cyclones pick up their only goal of the period at the 16:52 mark when Mac Faulkner scored on a penalty shot. Michael Teslak made a save on the initial breakaway but on the penalty shot the Faulkner would find the top corner to make it 4-2.
The Cyclones came out swinging in the third period out shooting the Jackals 13-5. Cincinnati would pull within a goal at the 11:31 mark when Mac Faulkner picked up his hat trick tally. The Jackals would have two prime chances with shots from Derek Couture and Pierre-Luc Faubert who were both robbed by the goalpost. The Jackals would also have a Benoit Doucet goal disallowed midway through the third period as the he was called for kicking the puck into the goal. The Cyclones kept the pressure coming and tied the game on the power play at 17:52 with Dustin Sproats sixth of the post season. The teams stayed tied at 4-4 and for the fourth time in the post season the Jackals would find themselves in overtime.
Just 1:46 into the fourth period Ian McKenzie went crashed in on Michael Teslak, the rebound went to the open Jimmy Kilpatrick who blasted home the game winner. The contest ended with a 31-28 shot advantage for the Cyclones while picking up the 2-0 series lead.
HOME ICE: The series comes to Elmira on Wednesday, April 29th (7:05 p.m.) for game three. Games four and five will be this Friday, May 1st and Saturday, May 2nd (7:35 p.m. both nights). **If necessary games six and seven will be in Cincinnati on Tuesday, May 5th and Wednesday, May 6th.
