Elmira, NY The Adirondack Frostbite scored three goals in the first three minutes of the third period to beat the Elmira Jackals 4-3 Friday night at the First Arena.
Elmira jumped out to an early lead when Eddy Lowe scored his 15th goal of the season at 8:09 of the first period on the power play from Corey Foster and Jamie Thompson. 58 seconds later Thompson made it 2-0 Jackals scoring his 19th of the year at 9:07 from Trevor Burgess and Carl Drakensjo and the house was rocking from an Elmira dominated first period.
In the second period Adirondack started to claw back as they scored the lone goal of the period at 15:30, former Jackal Trevor Segstro tapped home a needle-threaded pass from Hugo Belanger to cut Elmiras lead in half.
The first three minutes of the third period turned out to be the deciding segment of the game. Adirondack scored three times in that span to open up a 3-2 lead. Sylvain Cloutier (0:40) and J.F. Labarre (2:32) each scored during a 4-minute power play assessed at 18:43 of the second period to Elmira goaltender Greg Hewitt for butt-ending. Then with Elmira reeling, Cory Lucas made it 4-2 Frostbite at 2:55 with an unassisted goal to complete four straight goals scored by Adirondack. Elmira got a late goal from Dean Jackson, his 6th of the season, at 18:13 assisted by Drakensjo and Derek Campbell to keep things interesting. But despite pulling Hewitt in the last minute of the game, Elmira fell literally inches short of equalizing.
Goaltender Kris Tebbs made 32 saves on 35 shots for the win, while Greg Hewitt took the loss for Elmira, stopping 39-of-43 shot on the night.
Elmira, NY Former Jackal Greg Koehler had 5-assists Saturday night as the Adirondack Frostbite completed a weekend sweep of the Elmira Jackals 5-1 at the First Arena.
Adirondack jumped all over Elmira in front of a sellout crowd, sinking the Jackals with a 4-goal first period. Hugo Belanger scored twice and Trevor Segstro and Bob Rapoza each added a goal of their own in the opening twenty minutes. Greg Koehler had assists on each of the 4 goals exacting his own form on revenge on the team that traded him away one week ago. Tom Clayton scored the lone goal of the first period at 8:06, his 4th of the year, from Carl Drakensjo and Corey Foster, but Elmira went into the break trailing 4-1.
After a stalemate in the second period, the Frostbite added one final goal at 14:42 of the third period when Scott Page scored from Koehler and David Vychodil for a 5-1 final score. The Jackals were out-shot 11-to-3 in the final period.
Goaltender Kris Tebbs made 31 saves on 32 shots for the win, while Kevin Kurk took the loss for Elmira, stopping 31 of 36 shots on the night.
