Jackals Looking To Sign New Waiver Pickup Ed Campbell
Elmira, NY The Elmira Jackals announced today that they have claimed the rights to defenseman Ed Campbell off waivers from the Fort Wayne Komets.
Campbell, who was selected at the end of the regular season in the waiver draft by Fort Wayne, spent most of the 2005-06 season with the Danbury Trashers. The 31-year old from Worcester, Massachusetts, appeared in 29 games for the Evil Empire this season, recording 16 points (3 goals, 16 assists) and 132 penalty minutes; he also played 12 games for the Cleveland Barons of the AHL and 24 games for the Petrolia Squires of the OHA Senior league. After being picked up by Fort Wayne for the playoffs, Campbell appeared in 3 games for the Komets in their quarterfinal series with Rockford.
Campbells UHL rights are now the property of the Jackals, who hope to sign him to a contract in the near future. The 62, 210 lbs defenseman has plenty of experience in his 10 years as a professional, Campbell has spent almost all of it at the AHL level. In 695 career games played, he has 172 pts (38 goals, 134 points) and 1,487 penalty minutes. His best statistical year came in the 2000-01 season when he put up 32 points (5 goals, 27 assists) and 207 PIMs in 78 games for the AHLs Worcester IceCats.
