Elmira Acquires Goaltender Joel Martin From Trenton

ELMIRA, NY The Elmira Jackals, proud members of the ECHLs North Division, announced today that they have acquired goaltender Joel Martin from the Trenton Devils in exchange for future considerations and financial considerations. The Jackals are also excited to announce that Martin has agreed to terms with Elmira for the 2007-08 season, becoming the seventh player introduced for the Jackals inaugural ECHL season.

Joel Martin becomes the first Jackals roster player that played in the ECHL during the 2006-07 season. He spent last year with Trenton, posting a 12-15-2 record in 32 appearances with a 3.45 Goals Against Average and a 0.904 save percentage. Martin turned it up in the post-season, leading the ECHL in save percentage by recording a 0.963 save percentage, along with a 1.08 GAA, in spite of having a 0-2 record.

Martin, 61 185 lbs, had a breakout season while playing for the Kalamazoo Wings during the 2005-06 season in the United Hockey League. Martin was named the 2005-06 UHL Goalie of the Year while posting a 36-12-4 regular season record, with a 2.20 GAA and a 0.921 save pct. He also set a UHL Single Season Record by earning 9 shutouts for the K-Wings that year. Martin continued his form into the playoffs, where he led the UHL in almost every goaltending category. The native of Fort Worth, Texas was 12-1 with a 1.84 GAA and a 0.933 save percentage, leading the K-Wings to the 2006 Colonial Cup Championship.

Martin has earned three separate call-ups to the American Hockey League during his 4-year career. He appeared in one game for the Cleveland Barons during the 2005-06 season, and then saw action in 3 AHL games during the 2006-07 season. He went 1-0-0 in two appearances for the Norfolk Admirals and was fantastic in his only outing with the Syracuse Crunch, stopping 33-of-34 shots to earn his second AHL win of his career.
