Wheeling, WV- A wild hockey game at WesBenco Arena featured seven goals and five fights between the Wheeling Nailers and Elmira Jackals. Through a hard fought game the Jackals ended up on the losing end of a 5-2 tilt.
The scoring got started just 9:18 into the first period on a power play goal from Jordan Morrison. The Jackals bit right back with a power play goal from Paul McIlveen with assist going to Craig Switzer and Wes Cunningham at the 13:08 mark of the first. The Nailers would strike back with goals from Aaron Clarke and Nick Johnson.
The Jackals would start the second period with a bang. Ryan Gibbons netted his second goal of the season just 35 seconds in. The score would hold at 3-2 through 40 minutes of action.
The third period would be full of action. The Nailers scored goals at the 4:04 mark and 11:19 mark extending the lead to 5-2. The Jackals would put up a fight to end the game. Literally. Guillaume Lepine, Ryan Gibbons and Joe Grimaldi all tossed the mitts with under 20 seconds to play in regulation. With the 5-2 loss the Jackals fall to 9-6-0-2 while the Nailers improve to 11-2-1-4.
Up NEXT: The Jackals then return to First Arena for a three game set starting Wednesday, December 3rd when they play host to the Florida Everblades at 7:05 p.m. The Reading Royals visit First Arena on Friday, December 5th at 7:35 p.m., and the Trenton Devils are in town on Saturday, December 6th for a 7:35 p.m. tilt.
