The Elmira Jackals, proud member of the United Hockey League, announced today the signing of Alex Andreyev to a one-year contract for the 2004-2005 season. He becomes the seventh player signed for the upcoming season.
Andreyev, a Riga, Latvia native, was selected by the Phoenix Coyotes in the eighth round of the 1997 NHL Draft. He played the last two seasons with Greensboro of the ECHL. In 101 total games Andreyev totaled 301 PIMs, with 1 goal and 8 assists. The 64, 235-pound defenseman brings UHL experience to the Jackals. Andreyev played in 115 games for the B.C. Icemen from 1999-2002.
Last Season Gillies scored 23 goals with 16 assists for 39 points in 63 games played, with 122 PIMs. He chipped in with 6 goals and 6 assists during the playoffs. Gillies also played nine games in the AHL last year. He played his college hockey for Union College in Schenectady, NY. He was the Dutchmens Team Captain in 2002-03.
