Elmira, NY- The Elmira Jackals and Trenton Devils match up for the final time tonight at First Arena at 7:05 p.m. Wear green and dont miss this St. Patricks Day Bash!
Elmira Jackals (33-24-1-4=71) vs. Trenton Devils (33-23-2-4=72)
Series: Coming into tonights match up the season series is tied at 6-5-0-1. Trenton won the last contest in Elmira on the 13th of February, 4-3 in a shoot out. The Jackals held the advantage in the two prior contests, 4-3 and 6-4. Elmira won the first four games of the season series.
Standings: Two points separates first place and fifth place in the North Division of the American Conference. With only the top four teams advancing to the post season, tonights two points are gigantic. Elmira currently occupies 5th place with 71 points, two points behind Cincinnati and Wheeling and one point behind Trenton and Johnstown.
Top Dogs: The Jackals were led by Derek Coutures five points in two games last weekend. New comer Brendan Connolly netted three goals last weekend while Colton Yellow Horn continues to pick up steam with five assists and eight points in his past six games. Defenseman Craig Switzer has led the Jackals in the plus minus category over the past six games with a plus 10 rating.
T- Devil Leaders: Eric Castonguay has netted 19 points in his past 12 games. Castonguay leads the team with 56 points on the season. Ryan Gunderson has netted five goals and added 46 assists on the season.
Goaltending: Elmira net minder Michael Teslak picked up his first shut out of the season last weekend when he blanked the Dayton Bombers with 28 saves. Teslak has improved his save percentage to 0.902 and his goals against to 2.99 in 23 games played this season. Trentons Gerald Coleman has been tough to beat with a 2.38 goals against average and 0.915 save percentage over 36 games this season.
Home Sweet Home: Tonights game marks the first of the final 10 games to be played in the 2008-2009 campaign. Of the 10 remaining games, only two will be played away from the First Arena.
