Elmira, NY The Elmira Jackals announced today that forward Eddy Lowe has come out of retirement to sign with the team for the 2005-2006 season.
The only player to skate in a Jackals uniform for all five years of the teams existence, Lowe announced his retirement from professional hockey at the end of last season. But the fan favorite referred to as The Next Mayor of Elmira has decided to put his retirement plans on hold in order to return for a sixth year with the Jackals.
Lowe, who resides in Elmira year-round, became the teams All-Time leading scorer last season. In 361 career games, all with the Jackals, he has piled up 228 points (115 goals, 113 assists) and 371 minutes in penalties.
Eddy is the key piece to the puzzle, said Jackals Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Perry Florio. His desire to play for the Jackals once again shows how driven he really is. More than any other player or staff member Eddie Lowe is the face of the Elmira Jackals.
The 30 year-old has twice helped the Jackals to the Colonial Cup Finals, in 2001-2002 and 2003-2004. In 25 career playoff games Lowe has 24 points (11 goals, 13 assists).
