Flint, MI Bobby Reynolds scored with less than two minutes remaining in the third period, lifting the Flint Generals to a 5-4 win over the Elmira Jackals Saturday night at Peranis Arena.
Playing with four new players in the lineup the Jackals were looking for their third-straight win as they kicked off their 9-day, 6-game road trip in Flint. But it was the Jackals leading goal scorer, Frank Littlejohn, who started the offensive attack for the Jackals. Littlejohn snapped a wrist shot past Jason Muzzatti at 7:15 for his 31st goal of the season and a 1-0 Jackals lead, assisted by newcomers Glenn Detulleo and Andrew Leach. However, Flint answered right back 28 seconds later when Jason Selleke finished off a great 2-on-1 pass from Jordan Fox at 7:43, tying the game at one. Flint then grabbed the lead at 13:20 as Jeff Zehr tipped a sharp angle shot up under the cross bar, putting the Generals ahead 2-1.
Flint doubled their lead when Bobby Reynolds scored a controversial goal at 11:28. Reynolds tipped a pass from Jeff Zehr towards the net, but even though Dave Lemanowicz appeared to make the save and the red light never went on, the goal judge and the referee conferred and a goal was awarded to Reynolds and Flint, for a 3-1 lead. But again the Jackals came back, when Littlejohn cashed in for his 2nd goal of the game, set up by a precise passing combination from Detulleo and Leach to set up Littlejohns one-timer at 17:36, pulling the Jackals back to a 3-2 score.
Jeff Zehr scored his second goal of the night just 46 second into the third period, regaining Flints 2-goal lead 4-2. But the Jackals came right back. David Morelli scored 19 seconds later assisted by Jeff Daw and David Hymovitz at 1:05. The Jackals then competed the comeback when Daw scored a power play goal, assisted by Morelli and Nick Harloff, tying the game 4-4 at 7:05. Both goaltenders made game-saving stops during the middle part of the period, but with just two minutes left in regulation, Bobby Reynolds found space down the right wing and fired a wrist shot that eluded Lemanowicz, pulling Flint in front 5-4 at 18:04, winning the game for the Generals.
Jason Muzzatti earned the win in goal for Flint as he made 28 saves on 32 shots and the Generals improved to 25-28-6. Dave Lemanowicz was strong in goal, but took the loss while stopping 23-of-28 shots as the Jackals dropped to 25-34-1 on the season. Elmira was 1-for-6 on the power play; while Flint was 0-for-2.
The Jackals will head to Port Huron Sunday afternoon for a 5:00 pm face off with the Port Huron Flags at McMorran Place Arena.
