The Elmira Jackals announced on Monday that they have acquired goaltender Garrett Zemlak from the Stockton Thunder in exchange for the ECHL rights to forward Tyler Donati. Donati had been recalled by the AHL's Connecticut Whale on Sunday.
Zemlak, a 6'1", 195-pound rookie, has posted a save percentage of .912 and a goals-against average of 2.37 this season with the Thunder to go along with a 4-6-3 record. He attended training camp this season with the NHL's Los Angeles Kings.
A native of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Zemlak made his professional debut with the Charlotte Checkers at the end of last season after finishing his amateur career. Zemlak went 2-0-1 with a .929 save percentage and a 2.15 goals-against average with Charlotte
Zemlak spent his major-junior hockey career in the Western Hockey League, playing two seasons with the Saskatoon Blades and finishing his amateur career with the Prince Albert Raiders for the final two seasons.
In 2009-2010, Zemlak was named Prince Albert's Most Outstanding Player, going 26-25-4 with a .909 save percentage and a 3.11 goals-against average.
Over his four-year junior career, Zemlak posted five shutouts along with a 54-49-6 record, a 3.31 goals-against average, and a .896 save percentage.
