Toledo, Ohio - The Elmira Jackals (32-29-7-3) were overpowered by the Toledo Walleye (33-32-4-2) on Friday night at the Huntington Center as Toledo won its final home game of the season, 6-2.
Andy Bohmbach took a feed from Mike Hedden and fired it into the net at 3:46 of the opening frame to give the Walleye a 1-0 lead.
Tyler Doig knocked in a loose puck off a tip from Dominic Osman to put Toledo up 2-0 at the 5:14 mark of the first.
Patrick Coulombe's shot from the left-wing boards deflected off of a Walleye defenseman and into the net to bring Elmira to within a goal, 2-1, at 2:15 of the second period.
Just 16 seconds later, Andrew Favot stole a Bryan Rufenach pass and lifted it over the glove of Toledo goaltender Joe Palmer for his first professional goal, tying the game 2-2.
Toledo bounced back though to score the game's final four goals. Jason Lepine's shot from the blue line deflected off of Jackals goaltender Jared DeMichiel and into the net at 3:41 of the second to put the Walleye in front for good, 3-2.
Evan Rankin finished off a two-on-one with Mike Hedden by snapping a feed in from the right circle to add to Toledo's lead, 4-2, at 6:13 of the second.
Mike Hedden was found in front by Tyler Doig, and Hedden angled the puck over DeMichiel's glove to put Toledo up 5-2 with under 56 seconds left in the middle frame.
Scooter Smith was found by Maxime Tanguay streaking down the left wing side, and Smith drove a puck in at 6:35 of the third period to finish off the scoring, 6-2.
DeMichiel made 23 saves in 29 shots, falling to 15-11-1-1. Palmer improved to 10-12-1-0 and earned his first win since Feb. 16 by making 37 saves on 39 shots.
The Jackals finish off the regular season on Saturday night in Kalamazoo at 7:30 p.m. against the Wings before heading to the 2011 Kelly Cup Playoffs.
