News release
4 June 2010
The Elmira Jackals announced their 2010-2011 schedule on Friday, which contains 32 weekend games and four weekday games at First Arena along with four new opponents, including the Alaska Aces, who come to First Arena on Thanksgiving weekend.
The Jackals will play 12 home games on Fridays, 13 on Saturdays, seven on Sundays, and four on Wednesdays.
"I am very pleased with this season's schedule. Anytime you can have 32 of your 36 games on weekends is very fan-friendly," Jackals general manager Robbie S. Nichols said.
In addition to hosting the Alaska Aces for the first time, the Jackals play two games in Greenville, which will soon unveil its team name, three at the Las Vegas Wranglers, and three at the Ontario Reign.
The Jackals will open at home for the fourth-straight season since joining the ECHL, welcoming the Kelly Cup champion Cincinnati Cyclones to town on Friday, October 15 at 7:35 p.m. Elmira recently announced it will attempt to set a club record for single-game attendance on that night, which stands at 4,325 fans. Initial plans are to open the First Arena Recreational Rink to a viewing party, with prizes being given out throughout the game to the audience.
Elmira is 3-0 in season openers since becoming a member of the ECHL in 2007. Last season, the Jackals defeated the Cyclones 5-2 to start their 2009-2010 campaign, their first of seven-consecutive victories to kick off the season.
New Jackals coach Malcolm Cameron will attempt to beat his former team when the Florida Everblades come to Elmira on Sunday, November 28 at 4:05 p.m, the last of four Jackals home games on that Thanksgiving weekend. The game will be a rematch of the first round of the 2010 Kelly Cup Playoffs, when Cameron's Everblades defeated the Jackals in five games.
Friday and Saturday home games will begin at 7:35 p.m., with Sunday games starting at 4:05 p.m. and Wednesday home games at 7:05 p.m.
