Blade Is Trying To Break His Own Appearance Record

Elmira, NY The Elmira Jackals announced today that their trusty mascot Blade is braving this mid-summer heat wave to branch out into the community with 4-appearances from Wednesday-Saturday.

Tonight Blade begins his 4-day Tour of the Twin Tiers by appearing at the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) 2006 Walk to Cure Diabetes Awards and Appreciation Reception. This event is being held from 6:00 pm - 7:15 pm at the East Dining Hall of the Elmira College Campus Center. Blade will be on hand to surprise the kids and support all of the volunteers who gave their time and effort to raise money for JDRF.

Thursday, July 20th, Blade is off to Corning for the 2006 Market Street Mile running race, sponsored by the Wineglass Running Club, the Chemung Valley Montessori School and Cornings Gaffer District. The race course runs between Bridge and Wall Street in Cornings Historic Gaffer District from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm and Blade will be on hand to cheer on the athletes and be a part of the award ceremony.

On Friday, July 21st the Jackals fearless mascot is back in Corning for the Crazy Olympics & Bike Rodeo sponsored by the Corning Parks & Recreation Department. The events are crazy replicas of actual Olympic events, like straw javelin, oatmeal relay, gross long jump and wacky dive competition. Geared towards children from ages 7-to-12 years old, the Crazy Olympics will be held at Denison Green Pavilion & Pool from 10:00 am to Noon, followed by a free bag lunch & awards ceremony with Blade from Noon to 1:00 pm.

The fourth and final stop of Blades schedule is the longest stage of the Tour, as he heads to Wellsville, NY on Saturday, July 22nd. The Jackals furry friend will take part in the Main Street Festival on Saturday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm as part of the Wellsville Balloon Rally Weekend, sponsored in part by the Wellsville Area Chamber of Commerce. Blade will be posing for pictures and interacting with the kids as they participate in the days events and activities.
