Devils Win Game Two, 6-5

Trenton, NJ- After setting the record for the longest game played in the history of the ECHL last night, the Elmira Jackals and Trenton Devils decided the score within the 60 minute time burier tonight at the Sovereign Bank Arena in Trenton. The Devils took game two with a 6-5 victory despite a respected third period effort from the Jackals. The best of seven series comes to Elmira this Wednesday at 7:05 p.m.

Just like last nights contest, the scoring opened with a Slavomir Tomko goal just 2:58 in. Tomko blasted a shot on the ice past Trenton net minder Gerald Coleman for the early lead. The assists went to Paul McIlveen and Benoit Doucet. The Devils would strike back roughly three minutes later with a Tony Zancanaro goal. Elmira then retook the lead at the 15:24 mark when Paul McIlveen and Pierre-Luc Faubert set up Chris Korchinski for a power play tally. Again the Devils would counter, this time with a Dan Eves goal with under three minutes to play in the first period. Deadlocked at 2-2 the contest moved into the second frame.

In the second period the Devils opened up a 4-2 lead with goals from Coutu and Wilson, both coming within the first six minutes of the period. Late in the second Steve Yetman brought the game back within one when he beat Gerald Coleman. Wes Cunningham and Paul McIlveen assisted on the play at the 12:50 mark.

Like the second period, the Devils opened the third with another two goal spree. The first was credited to Trevor Kell at the 2:06 mark, the second was a Matt Radoslovich goal at the 10:43 mark. Trailing 6-3 at the 12:23 mark of the third period, the Jackals would find a boost of energy when Chaz Johnson fired a shot that was tipped by Korchinski over the glove of Coleman to bring the game back within two. 1:14 later Benoit Doucet pulled the game within a goal when he walked out from behind the net and snuck the puck past Coleman. Steve Yetman had the assist on the goal. The Jackals pressured late in the third but couldn't find an answer for the hungry Devils squad.

The contest ended in favor of Trenton 6-5, while the Devils held a 38-33 shot advantage in the contest. Elmira goaltender Riku Helenius made 33 saves in his Jackals Debut. The Series comes to Elmira for games three, four and five.
