Jackals Staff Walks For Cancer Fundraiser

Elmira, NY The Elmira Jackals announced today that they would be hosting and participating in Friday nights Relay For Life event being held at First Arena.

National Cancer Survivors Day, Friday, May 18th will be a very special night at First Arena as it hosts the 2007 American Cancer Society Relay For Life Of Chemung County. This years event marks the first time the Chemung County Relay will be held indoors; the Relay of the previous two years has been clouded by wet weather. Now inside the comfortable confines of the First Arena, walkers will be able to avoid any inclement weather during their 12-hour trek to celebrate Cancer Survivors and raise money for the fight for a cure.

Sponsored by the American Cancer Society, along with the Falck Cancer Center, Holiday Inn of Elmira & Horseheads, Associated Radiologists of the Finger Lakes PC, Excellus Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Sams Club, Internal Medicine Associates, Multimedia Services, St. Josephs Hospital and many others, teams of 10-30 people will split up the shifts for the non-stop 12-hour walk around the indoor course set up at First Arena. Fridays festivities begin with registration at 5:00 pm, followed by the Survivor Dinner at 5:30 pm. Opening Ceremonies and the commencement of the Relay will begin at 7:00 pm and will run through the night concluding Saturday morning at 7:00 am.

Amongst the more than 40 teams, over 500 participants, the Jackals and First Arena staff have entered a team for the Relay. Even the Jackals trusty mascot Blade is going to do his part to help the Jackals team of walkers complete this very important community event.

Relay For Life is an overnight celebration of Hope, Progress & Answers. In honor of the 10,000,000 Americans who have survived cancer, dedicated teams of friends, families & co-workers raise funds to support the fight. The ECHLs Kelly Cup Playoffs has reached their second Game 7 of the year. Friday night the Florida Everblades will host the Dayton Bombers for the deciding game in the American Conference Finals. Florida forced the definitive match after beating the Bombers 6-3 Thursday night in Game 6. Fridays game will be Daytons second Game 7 of their playoff run, after beating the Cincinnati Cyclones in seven games in the Conference Semifinals. After completing the 2006-07 season the Jackals are currently under going preparations for the 2007-2008 season, their inaugural campaign in the ECHL and their 8th season of operations beginning in October of 2007.
