19 October 2007
The 2007-08 ECHL season begins tonight for the Elmira Jackals as they welcome in the Wheeling Nailers for a 7:35 p.m. face off tonight at First Arena. Television and radio coverage of tonights game begins at 7:30 p.m. on WETM-2 and MAGIC FM (92.7/97.7). As of 11 a.m. today, approximately 400 tickets remain for tonights contest that marks the first for the Jackals as a member of the ECHL.
While its the season debut for the Jackals, the Nailers come to town with a win under their belt already as they were 4-2 winners last night over the Johnstown Chiefs at the Cambria County War Memorial.
For Elmira, this opener is the first for the team outside of the former United Hockey League of which they were members for the seven seasons. With the move to the premier Double-A minor league, a new affiliation with the NHLs Columbus Blue Jackets providing a number of prospects and the Ottawa Senators also placing several players here, the level of play on First Arena ice should rise noticeably as the curtain comes up on the new year tonight.
And dont forget, the Main Street Block Party begins at 5 p.m. outside First Arena. Live music, games, food and more along with the red carpet arrival of your 2007-08 Elmira Jackals. Dont miss the excitement tonight, and every night, as the Jackals begin their quest for the Kelly Cup!
