Wheeling, W.V. - The Elmira Jackals fell 3-2 to the Wheeling Nailers on Saturday night at WesBanco Arena, the club's first loss of the 2011-2012 season. Jackals goaltender Brian Stewart made a career-high 53 saves in the defeat.
Elmira established a 2-0 advantage before Wheeling found the net. Martin Moucha centered a puck for Jean Bourbeau who tapped it in on the doorstep at 4:24 of the opening period to give the Jackals a 1-0 advantage. Mike Ratchuk blasted a puck from the blue line over the glove of Wheeling netminder Patrick Killeen on the power play to put Elmira up 2-0 at 1:22 of the second.
Tim Priamo gave the Nailers their first goal minutes later, driving in a feed from Chris Barton at 3:45 of the second to make it 2-1. Mikael Bedard snapped a loose puck in from the slot at 6:23 of the middle frame to tie the game, 2-2.
Patrick Johnson notched the game winner at 2:42 of the third, wristing a puck in from the high slot to give Wheeling the lead for good, 3-2.
Stewart fell to 1-1, turning away all but three of 56 Wheeling shots. Killeen improved to 3-0 with an 18-save outing.
